Perfect to follow, the signs are very clear. Very nice views. We enjoyed the whole of it.

8 friends and myself walked this trail on 1st February 2016.We found a distinct lack of signs particularly at the start of the track in Janes. A PR 4 sign would have been useful. Apart from that, a very enjoyable walk.

This is a very nice trail through the nature on the hot side of the Sintra mountain. You will pass by cliffs with amazing beach views, aromatic herbal scents and small villages with nicely decorated houses.

The way is in general well marked but 3 times I missed a turn and had to go back after ending up in a dead end street.

I started the trail at a different place than recommended: From Cascais train station I took a bus to Praia do Guincho, bus numbers: 405 & 415 (the bus terminal is below the shopping center next to the station). I walked around the Guincho beach and then followed the GR11 trail on the coastline north of Praia do Guincho for a few hundred meters until I reached the PR4 trail at the small fortress.

Then I followed the PR4 on the coast up to Malveira da Serra where I passed by amazing viewpoints all over the Cascais peninsula and then went down again through dry forests and small villages to return to the Guincho beach.

I can recommend to take enough water with you. It can be very hot on this side of the mountain. I had to buy additional water in Malveira da Serra's supermarkets. I hiked in September and found it much hotter here than on the north side of the mountain. Also I recommend good shoes because the trail sometimes leads through rocky terrain.

This was a great and easy trail with great variety in landscapes. I went through some forests, 2 different villages and fantastic rocky beaches. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a pleasant Sunday stroll!
