A trail from High Barnet station (Northern Line) mostly on footpaths to Hampstead Heath then Parliament Hill with panoramic views over London. Finish at Kentish Town Station (Northern Line and Thameslink) for London Underground train back to High Barnet or Thameslink to St Albans.
From High Barnet Station, via the Dollis Valley Greenwalk, Brook Farm Open Space, Whetstone Stray, Riverside Walk, Oakdene Park, Windsor Open Space, Mutton Brook, Little Wood, Big Wood, Hampstead Heath Extension, Hampstead Heath, Parliament Hill (café), College Lane, Highgate Road, Kentish Town Station.
The route follows a green corridor into London with over 80% of the route on green spaces and traffic free footpaths (some shared with cyclists). The remainder is on roads with pavements including half a mile through Hampstead Garden Suburb and the last mile to Kentish Town Station.
At Underhill turn left towards the railway bridge but do not go as far as the traffic lights.
Take footpath that cuts through from Underhill to Westcombe Drive
Cross Westcombe Drive and continue straight on along the footpath
At this point, take the left fork which is a footpath only, not the right fork which is a cycle path only.
At Totteridge Lane turn right for 50 metres
After walking along Totteridge Lane for 50 metres, turn left onto Dollis Valley Greenwalk
Continue straight on across Laurel Way
At this point, there is no path that continues beside Dollis Brook ends so turn right along Tillingham Way then left along Southover.
Turn left off Southover on footpath beside Dollis Brook
Cross Sussex Ring and continue on path beside Dollis Brook
After crossing the footbridge, turn left on path beside Dollis Brook
Join Dollis Road and go under the railway viaduct, which carries the Mill Hill East branch of the Northern Line.
Turn left off Dollis Road onto the Dollis Valley Greenway

At this point, fork right, take the subway under Hendon Lane, then continue along the footpath with Dollis Brook on your right
After the Pedestrian Priority sign, look out for left turn at the end of the railings.
Turn left here following the Dollis Valley Greenwalk sign to Hampstead Heath Extension via Little Wood, Big Wood. At this point Mutton Brook joins Dollis Brook and they become the River Brent which flows into the River Thames at Brentford. The Dollis Valley Greenwalk turns left and continues near Mutton Brook.
Keep right near Mutton Brook, do not take the left fork signposted to Golders Green and East Finchley
Cross Finchley Road at the traffic lights and continue on the Dollis Valley Greenwalk. This is Henly's Corner where the A1 meets the A406 North Circular Road. It is named after the Henlys Garage that was at the junction until 1989. There is now a Holiday Inn Express at the junction.
Turn left along Addison Way following waymark arrows for Dollis Valley Greenwalk and Capital Ring
Turn right off Addison Way following signpost to Little Wood
After leaving Little Wood, walk along Denman Drive Norh
Take path leading to Big Wood
After leaving Big Wood, continue straight on along Bigwood Road which leads into Meadway Close
When Meadway Close bends to the right, continue straight on following sign to Hampstead Heath Extension.
Go South across Hampstead Heath Extension. GPS and/or a compass are useful here. There is a drinking fountain and public toilets here and further on there are a number of seats.
Cross Wildwood Road and take the path into woodland. GPS and/or compass are useful here.
Pass a seat and walk to the left of a pond in the woods. GPS useful here
There is a pedestrian crossing on Spaniards Road. After crossing the road, it is possible to take a direct route South-Southeast but you need GPS to follow it. An alternative which is slightly longer but easier to follow is to turn right (South-Southwest) along Spaniards Road then sharp left on a main path.

At the path junction before an open grassy area, turn left. There is another drinking fountain at the junction.

After leaving the summit of Parliament Hill, take the path straight on under the trees

Go south along Highgate Road then after going under the railway bridge, it is possible to take a shady and traffic-free route that goes parallel with Highgate Road and rejoins Highgate Road further south. Turn left along Little Green Street then right along College Lane.
Continue to Kentish Town Station
